EC schools rugby brace for local rivalries
Two of Eastern Cape’s school rugby giants in Queens College and Grey High will face off against each other in an old traditional rivalry on Saturday 7th May in the Queens home ground in Queenstown.
Queens is currently the second best ranked Eastern Cape school side and 15th in the country according to the SA Rugby Magazine school rugby rankings, while Grey High are third in Eastern Cape and 17th in the country.
Both teams have the utmost pride in their rugby legacy with a wide history, and will both seek to wave the EC flag for schools rugby, especially with the Schools Craven Week in their sight.
Both sides have lost two matches this season so far, Queens losing 31-17 to Kingswood and 41-20 to Jeppe Boys High; while Grey High lost to Paul Roos 36-21 and Daniel Pienaar 24-20.
In addition, Queens have won eight games and Grey seven games this year so far. Queens beat Graeme College 50-6, Pearson 40-18, Northwood 36-8, Hudson Park 23-7, St. Benedicts 30-27, Marlow Landbou 25-15, Selborne College 33-29 and Framesby 20-12 respectively.
Grey overcame Stirling 50-0, Westville 29-6, Bishops 44-0, Michaelhouse 39-15, Die Brandwag 45-12, Parktown 27-8 and Durban High School 16-7 this year respectively.
Eastern Cape’s top school side, Dale College (13th in the country), host fellow King Williams Town counterparts, De Vos Malan on the same day. Dale only lost one match this season so far at the hands of the 4th-placed Glenwood, 32-5.
Selborne College host co-East Londoners, Stirling High School. Selborne have won six out of ten games this season so far at the hands of Grens 19-10, Framesby 36-10, Middelburg 22-14, Maritzburg 18-7, Grens 38-5 and Louis Botha 60-10 respectively. They drew two to SACS 10-10 and Monument 3-3, while also losing two to Queens 33-29 and Dale 24-19.
