EDUTAINMENT FOR YOUR KIDS: Enjoy great family outings at Animals in Wonderland
Being a passionate animal lover, I was recently treated to one of my most unforgettable and captivating experiences at Animals in Wonderland, an animal education farm situated along Westlands Road, just after the Greenbushes and Seaview off-ramp.
Owned and run by Jeru Greenfingers and Juan Claassen, this incredible establishment offers an impressive variety of activities. However, their main focus is around educating children about our wildlife in a fun, informative and enjoyable way. Through this process, one gets to have memorable encounters with some of the most magnificent animal species that we are privileged to share our planet with.
Upon arrival, I was given a warm and friendly greeting by Jeru, whose sheer passion, knowledge and love for animals made a big impression on me. Not wanting to waste a second, we immediately got started on a guided tour, opting to first visit the critters before ending with the Sunday Breakfast Buffet.
I was personally introduced - on a name to name basis, to various animals on the farm ranging from snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, squirrels, owls, ducks and chickens to a precious young springbok. I learnt so much from each of these special creatures that my own respect towards wildlife has been dramatically broadened.
We ended our tour with a hearty farm-style breakfast buffet of bacon strips, generous-sized eggs, creamed mushrooms, pork sausages, fried tomatoes and crispy brown bread complemented by freshly-squeezed orange juice. For those opting for something healthier, there is also an array of freshly baked muffins, muesli and yoghurt. I personally could not have ended my weekend off any better.
Animals in Wonderland is renowned for their kiddies parties which include target shooting, bug and treasure hunts, an animal talk and tour, mini snake park, touch museum, obstacle course, animal feeding and interaction, bonfires for toasting marshmallows and fairy forest walk. Children of all ages, as well as the young at heart can really have some fun!
