“EFF JSE march spurs racial tensions” - Solidariteit

BY CHARL BOSCH - OCTOBER 29, 2015

Afrikaans trade union Solidariteit has accused the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) of inciting racial tensions following the party’s march to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) this week.

Speaking in an entry on Polticsweb, the origination’s deputy head, Johan Kruger, said comments made by party leader Julius Malema that the JSE was treating black people like criminals were uncalled for, and that his accusation of the country’s economy still being run by mostly whites were also unfounded as 23% of all shares belonged to blacks.

“This doesn’t mean that the remaining 77% is only white owned. In 2013, foreigners have already owned 39% of the JSE and another 16% was South African owned, although Alternative Prosperity could not establish by which population group they were owned. The remaining 22% consists of white South Africans,” Kruger said.

“Malema’s distorted statements are totally unfounded and once again smacks of an attempt to drive his own race-driven agenda”.

On Tuesday, Malema branded the JSE as racist after an estimated 1 000 party supporters and members staged a protest outside the exchange in Sandton, where a memorandum of demands was handed over.

“You are so racist you do not even belong to South Africa,” Malema said in reference to fence that had been erected in front of building.

“We are here because of the pain of poverty. You lock us here we got permission to come here. You treat (us) like we are criminals because we are black. We don't want racists here. You must pack your bags and go”.

The party has given the JSE thirty days to respond to its demands which includes the banning of labour brokers, sourcing 70% of its goods and service from local producers, giving 51% of all company control to workers, and introducing of minimum wage of R4 500.
