EFF Not Contesting Metro By-Elections

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will not be contesting the two by-elections in Nelson Mandela Bay on November 5, according to a list of candidates and parties released by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Ward 42, which is vacant, following the termination of the membership of sitting councillor Andile Gqabi by the ANC, will be contested by the ANC, COPE, DA, UDM and Gqabi who is standing as an independent.

In the 2011 Local Government Election, Gqabi won the ward for the ANC taking 89.82% of the vote to the 7.58% of COPE and 0.88% of the DA.

Ward 46 in the metro, which became vacant following the death of the sitting ANC councillor Lucky Vumazonke, will be contested by the ANC, COPE, DA and UDM.

In 2011, Vumazonke took 64.89% of the vote to the 22.43% of the DA, 9.48% of COPE and 1.29% of the PAC. - MetroMinutes.
