Eight suspects arrested for drug dealing in East London

Efforts to save communities from the scourge of drugs paid off, when eight suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs in Mdantsane and Cambridge over the weekend.

"This intelligence driven operation was carried out in Highway shopping centre," said police spokesperson, Capt Nkosikho Mzuku.

"A 29-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of two packets of tik. Officers searched two houses in NU2 and arrested two suspect, 25 and 28 years, for possession of 21 mandrax tablets and 40 dagga bompies and 11 arms of dagga.

"They proceeded to Cambridge area and searched several houses in Cambridge location and arrested three suspects, 22, 24 and 27 years old for possession of 37 mandrax tablets and 14 dagga bompies."

He said that the operation was concluded in Vincent, where another suspect was arrested for possession of cocaine and undisclosed amount of cash.

"The estimated street value of the drugs is R 7000," said Capt Mzuku.

"The seven suspects are due to appear in the Mdantsane and East London Magistrates’ Courts soon on charges of dealing."
