Elgar to replace injured Rossouw for Tri Series

Unlimited Titans batsman and Proteas Test player, Dean Elgar, has been called up to replace the injured Rilee Rossouw, who had dislocated his shoulder while fielding against Australia on Tuesday night.

Rossouw left the field in extreme discomfort after an awkward dive on the boundary and was immediately taken to hospital for scans.

Dr. Mohammed Moosajee, Proteas Team Manager, said in a statement to Cricket South Africa (CSA) that X-rays confirmed that Rossouw dislocated the AC joint in his right shoulder.

“He will be unable to take further part in this series and will return back to South Africa as soon as possible. The extent of the injury and the recovery period will only be known once he has been assessed and managed by one of Cricket South Africa’s panel of shoulder specialists,” Moosajee added.

The Proteas produced an unexpected turn-around performance to beat Australia by 47 runs on Tuesday night, getting them all out for 142. South Africa batted first and produced a sufficient 189/9 in their 50 overs.

After each team losing one and winning one match a piece in the West Indies Tri Nation Series so far, South Africa are placed first on the current standings with a higher Net Run Rate (0.378) above the second-placed Australia with a NRR of 0.373 and West Indies placing third with a -0.904 NRR. The Proteas lost their first ODI against West Indies, with the Windies winning by four wickets.

South Africa’s next match will also be against Australia on Saturday, 11th June.
