Eskom finances “improving” - Minister

JANUARY 27, 2015

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has said that Eskom’s financial problems have mostly been attributed to its reliance on diesel and that the struggling power utility’s finances are improving.

“Eskom has managed to save money and energy due to the implementation of maintenance and load-shedding. The use of diesel is only required when the lights can no longer be kept on,” Netwerk24 quotes the Minister as saying.

Yesterday, Eskom implemented stage two load-shedding across the country after reportedly experiencing “unforeseen technical problems” at some of its power stations.

Earlier this month, the Minister revealed that Eskom had depleted its diesel reserves due to a lack of money, and that the supply would only last till the middle of next month.
