Eskom: Grid to stabilise from June

Power utility Eskom has announced that consumers can expect the national grid to stabilise from next month as Unit One of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant is expected to come back online following scheduled maintenance.

The unit, which has not been functioning since February, is expected to add an additional 130 megawatts of power to the national grid with the state-owned parastatal’s spokesperson, Kulu Pasiwe, telling Eyewitness News that around 800 megawatts will be generated when it’s much troubled Medupi Power Station comes online later in June.

In a statement yesterday, Eskom said that around 5 000 striking workers at Medupi had returned to work, and that fine tuning will resume at the plant’s Unit Six, which earlier this month, reached a peak output of 735 megawatts.
