Eskom powers to day 50 of no load shedding

SEPTEMBER 28, 2015

Eskom in the morning said that it did not expect to implement load shedding on Monday. In the past 50 days, the power utility has only implemented Stage 1 load shedding for 2 hours 30 minutes.

"The power system is currently stable and, as a result, no load shedding is anticipated today.

"The stability of the system has enabled technicians to carry out the requisite maintenance of our power generating units. Our maintenance plan is aimed at increasing the reliability of our plant, and this will in turn increase our operating reserves and stabilise the grid," the power utility said.

"Customers are encouraged to continue to use electricity efficiently throughout the day and to encourage friends and family to do the same.

"We will continue to provide regular updates on the state of the power system through various media platforms."

Meanwhile, in a statement, Eskom also welcomed the decision by Cabinet on Friday to approve the appointment of Dr. Ben Ngubane as Chairperson of Eskom’s Board; Brian Molefe as permanent Chief Executive Officer and Anoj Singh as Chief Financial Officer of the state-owned company.
