Eskom warns about fake franchise opportunity

Eskom has issued a warning to consumers about an apparent pinching scheme involving prepaid electricity vending machines.

In a short statement, the power utility said criminals were offering franchise opportunities in the distribution of the machines, and that the suppliers would then be allowed resell the electricity at a self-determining price.

“These prices are determined by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) and no reseller is allowed to put any mark ups,” Eskom said.

“Eskom urges the general public not to have any dealings with the SA Tendergate website as this is a phishing scheme. Eskom also wishes to remind the public that all business opportunities available from Eskom would be advertised on its own website”.
