Facelifted Chevrolet Cruze(s) in
General Motors South Africa has released a facelifted version of its Chevrolet Cruze sedan and hatchback with new tech options and juggling of powertrains.
Stylish-wise, the Cruze now features a revised chrome surrounded grille with a much smaller bowtie badge, projector type headlights incorporating daytime-running LED’s, a choice of 16-or 17-inch alloy wheels and at the back, a completely revised facia (sedan only) with a new bootlid and taillights borrowed from the bigger US-market Malibu.
Inside, the Cruze retains the pre-facelift model’s dual-cockpit layout but now features the marque’s MyLink infotainment system on higher-spec models via a seven-inch touchscreen display on the centre facia.
Comprising of six models again in two trim levels, the base and LS models once again makes use of 1.6-litre petrol producing 86 kW and 155 N.m of torque. Mated solely with a five-speed manual gearbox, top speed is 185 km/h with the 0-100 km/h dash taking 12.8 sec. Chevrolet claims a combined fuel consumption of 6.7 L/100 km and emission of 158 g/km.
With the discontinuing of the previous range topping 2.0-litre turbodiesel, the 1.4-litre turbocharged LS petrol now becomes the most powerful option available. Still offering 103 kW and 200 N.m of torque, the engine can now be have with either the standard six-speed manual or similar ratio automatic gearbox.
Top speed for the manual is rated at 195 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 9.3 sec with the auto taking 10.4 sec before topping out at 204 km/h. Fuel consumption is a claimed 5.8 L/100 km for the manual and 6.8 L/100 km for the auto, while emissions come in at 135g/km and 157g/km respectively.
A five year / 100 000 km warranty and three year / 60 000 km or five year / 90 000 km service plan is also included.
