Fakers must be named and shamed – Nzimande

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has reportedly called for a register naming people who lied about their academic qualifications and so-called “fly-by-night institutions” where they claimed to have studied.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday during a social protection and human development cluster meeting, Nzimande stated that recent incidents of people faking their qualifications and tertiary education institutions, has become too great of a problem ignore further.

“This is a very serious matter, in so far as it can also discredit our entire higher education system. A simple way of putting it is, a name and shame list,” Nzimande was quoted by News24 as saying.

“If you lie about your qualifications or you produce a false certificate, it is fraud already in terms of existing laws. We want it to be taken seriously by society as a whole”.
