BY ZANDISIWE POLTIN - OCTOBER 6, 2015

The families of three victims on Monday welcomed the three life sentences handed down to a 33 year- old man from Kwetyana Location, near East London, by the Grahamstown High Court after it convicted him on two charges of rape and one of murder.

In October 2012, Sipho Kula allegedly raped a 14 year-old minor in Kwetyana Location and fled. The investigation was handed over to the local SAPS Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS).

While he was still on the run from the police, he also raped another 16 year-old teenager from the same village.

In the third incident, Kula allegedly hacked a man to death following an argument in an undisclosed matter.

He was later arrested and his DNA was linked to both rapes.

“I am pleased with the commitment, dedication and hard work shown by my members,” said Mdantsane FCS Lieutenant Commander, Bukelwa Maqhubela.
