February new vehicle sales ends flat

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) has recorded yet another slump in the sales of new vehicles.

Aggregate total domestic sales for February dropped 8.1% from 52 385 unit last year, to 48 149 examples this year. Individual segments were also down with new passenger vehicles sales falling 6.1% from 34 947 to 32 826, while light commercial vehicles registered a decline of 13.1% from last year’s 15 143 units, to 13 161.

Decreases were also posted in the sales of medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, with the market contracting by 12.9% and 2.3% respectively. Export also posted a decrease but by a scant 1.6% from 29 776 to 29 308.
