Fiat launches one-ton bakkie challenger

BY CHARL BOSCH - NOVEMBER 11, 2015

Following the unveiling of the polarising Toro half ton bakkie earlier this month, Fiat has announced its first foray into the one ton pick-up segment with the all-new Fullback.

Unveiled at the Dubai International Motor Show on Tuesday, and said to make its local debut sometime next year, the Fullback is essentially a restyled version of the soon to be launched Mitsubishi Triton, and will be available as either a two-wheel drive single cab or double cab with two-and four-wheel drive.

Underneath the bonnet, the Fullback makes use of two Mitsubishi sourced powertrains in the form of a 2.4-litre petrol that produces 97 kW and 202 N.m of torque, and a 2.5 DI-D turbodiesel with either 100 kW and 320 N.m of torque, or 131 kW and 400 N.m. Transmission options will consist of a five or six-speed manual as well as a five-speed automatic.

More details will be announced closer to launch.
