FIND YOUR HAPPY: Relaxation The Willows Resort way
On a recent Saturday and after a particularly stressful working week, I surprised my boys with an impromptu outing to The Willows Holiday Resort – and giving mom a little peace and quiet at home.
Located just 15 km from the Port Elizabeth beachfront and overlooking the Indian Ocean, the resort offers 3-Star accommodation, a large caravan park, private camping sites, as well as conference, function and wedding venues.
Our two-bedroom, self-catering chalet came standard with a double bed in one bedroom and single bed with a pull out single bed in the second bedroom. The kitchen was fully-equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave and all the utensils one would need for a family of four.
After running a little late, we made it just in time to get the braai going as the sun set. While I tendered the fire, my boys ran off to explore the natural surroundings and play areas. The Willows offers private beaches with great swimming, fishing spots and endless rock pools for kids to explore among a wide array of games and activities.
As it got darker and our meat began to sizzle, the boys returned and busied themselves with a game of Cluedo in the lounge - they did not even bother to look up at the television!
It must have been the fresh evening air and our full tummies, but we all turned in a lot earlier than usual that night.
The next day, being Mothers Day, we met mom out on an early run along the beachfront and brought her back to The Willows for breakfast at their Coffee Shop.
You won’t find a better value-for-money breakfast anywhere – a R25 ‘Low Tide’ option for the kids (egg, bacon, cocktail cheese grillers, toast and jam) and a R45 ‘Spring Tide’ option for us adults (2 eggs, bacon, cheese grillers, mushroom, chips, toast and jam). All this was complimented with coffee, Milo with marshmallows and friendly service.
After breakfast, we enjoyed a fun game of Putt-Putt, some paintball target practice and the boys spent the rest of the morning sliding on the kiddie’s super tube.
The Willows Holiday Resort offers families a care-free break in a relaxed, secure environment. You may only be 20 minutes away from home, but you feel as if you have left your troubles in another time zone. Their rates are very reasonable and their facilities are above average – be prepared to make some memories!
