First Staff Wellness Initiative for George Municipality

NOVEMBER 8, 2016

The Executive Mayor of George, Melvin Naik has initiated a first ever full day wellness and empowerment initiative for municipal staff and councillors which has been scheduled for Friday 18th November.

Ald. Naik noted that following his appointment as Executive Mayor in August this year, he held a round of meetings with each municipal directorate and established that staff morale overall was at a low within the municipality.

''The Wellness Day which will include a fun walk, games and a potjiekos competition to name but a few events, will also offer health screening by the Department of Health as well as the opportunity to donate blood. We will have several government departments available on the day to assist our staff.  All of the events are aimed at team building and staff empowerment.  My office is in the process of approaching local business to assist us with the sponsoring of this day,'' said Ald.Naik.

The public is advised that the York Street Main Building will only be open for payments of municipal accounts and all of the external municipal buildings will remain open with a skeleton staff for Emergency and Essential Services on Friday 18th November from 07h45 – 16h30 with the exception of Motor Registrations which will be closed. The George Municipality kindly requests your patience and understanding in this matter and would ask that the public of George plan around this closure.
