Five arrested for stock theft

Five men, aged between 35 and 40, were arrested for stock theft in the Free State on Thursday morning.

Members of Vrede Stock Theft Unit received information about a planned stock theft on two farms namely; Bettiesdeel Farm in the Cornelia District, and the Vogeldraai Farm in the Frankfort District.

The members followed up on the information and conducted a waylay operation at the N3 road around the said area.  Three suspects were arrested after they had been found in possession of a truck loaded with 11 sheep; one more suspect was arrested at Frankfort/Villiers road.

Further investigation then lead the investigating team to the arrest of the owner of the truck where another 14 sheep were recovered.

The suspects will be linked with other stock theft cases in the area of Mafube.

Members who were involved in the successful arrest of the suspects are Lt Mokoena, WO Mbongo, Cst Mokoena and Cst Tshabalala. 

The suspects will appear in Vrede Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
