Five busted by Uitenhage K9 Unit with 34kg dagga in vehicle

The Uitenhage police K9 Unit on Wednesday evening arrested five suspects, between the ages of 20 and 40 years, on the R75 after police found 34kgs dagga in a vehicle that they were travelling in.

"The suspects were travelling on the R75 while the K9 Unit was busy conducting routine patrols and also had a roadblock on the R75. That was when the officers noticed the suspicious red VW mini-bus that the suspects were travelling in and decided to pull it off the road," described police spokesperson, Gerda Swart.

"On searching the vehicle, the police officers found one bag of dagga weighing 34kgs and immediately arrested all the five people and confiscated the vehicle as well as the drugs."

Lt Swart said that the vehicle was heading in the direction of Uitenhage and appeared to be a local taxi.

She said that the suspects are expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magsitrate's Court on Friday.
