Five changes to Stormers side

DHL Western Province Stormers coach, Allister Coetzee, has had to make five changes to his team for their Currie Cup League match against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Due to injuries and call outs to the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens Series, Coetzee has altered his entire back row, as lock, Ruan Botha is out for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury and lock, Jean Kleyn, will be missing this week’s game due to a shoulder injury.

Centre, Pat Howard, will be returning to the team this week in place of Sevens star, Justin Geduld. Scrumhalf, Nic Groom is back in the starting nine as a replacement for Louis Schreuder.

The Stormers have also drafted in former Argentine player, Manuel Carizza, as a replacement for Botha, while lock, Rynhardt Elstadt, will return from suspension, as Carizza’s partner.

Dillyn Leyds has been named fullback in place of Cheslin Kolbe who has a back injury.

A win for Province will guarantee them a top spot on the log for a second successive year, however, this also depends on the results of the game between the Xerox Golden Lions and Cell C Sharks, as the men from Highveld are only four points behind.

“Five changes is a bit more than what we wanted to make, but unfortunately injuries have forced our hand this week,” said Coetzee.

“That said, we are fortunate to be able to call up someone like Dillyn Leyds, who offers an attacking threat from the back.”

“Pat Howard, Manuel Carizza and Rynhardt Elstadt are also hungry as they return to the starting team and we’re also fortunate to be able to be able to call on them after featuring – either as starters or replacements - this year.”
