Five foreign nationals arrested for East London and Queenstown housebreaking

Police in East London on Thursday morning arrested five foreign nationals in connection with a recent spate of housebreaking incidents reported in Vincent, East London, and Queenstown.

According to the police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi, police gathered information about the, which was travelling from Port Elizabeth to East London in the early hours of Thursday morning.

“Contact was established with police on patrol in East London, who caught up with the suspects on the R72, where they were stopped and their vehicle was searched,” said Captain Mbi.

He added that after questioning them, it came out that the jewellery in their possession had been recently stolen during a housebreaking in Vincent Park, East London.

Police also seized cash amounting to R50 000, jewellery and cell phones.

Four suspects, aged between 31 and 38 years-old, will appear before the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday.

A fifth suspect was linked to cases in the Queenstown area.
