Five suspects appear in Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court for hijacking and murder

JANUARY 27, 2015

Five suspects appeared in the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing a charge of vehicle hijacking and kidnapping, Eastern Cape police have said. The five, two females and three males, were arrested in Johannesburg by Cofimvaba SAPS on Friday, 23 January 2015.

This was a collaborative effort between the Cofimvaba detectives, the Provincial Intelligence  and detectives from Mondeo SAPS in Johannesburg.

The two vehicles that were hijacked in both incidents were recovered in this collaborative operation. The names of the suspects are Sindile Mayisela 22, Mzikayise Majezi 38, Mbulelo Mlanjana 23, Nokuphiwa Dingayo 21 and Sinalo Matanzima 19.

Their arrests came after two incidents of vehicle hijacking  were reported to the police on 31 December 2014 and another one on 13 January 2015.

In the first incident, it is alleged that a man was driving from Mtshanyana village to Lady Frere when he offered a lift to five men who were hitch hiking. The victim was severely assaulted and his car was hijacked. He was left at Mkhaphisi where a good Samaritan found him and took him to hospital. He was admitted at Queenstown hospital and later refered to Frere Hospital. His car was hijacked and his family learnt about the incident the following day.

On the 13 January 2015 it is alleged a 46- year-old lady was driving from Tsakana Location to Cofimvaba. On her way it is alleged that she picked up five (5) people (two ladies and three males) and offered them a hitch-hike. It is alleged that was the last time she was seen and a search by the police was started. Her body was found in Cala Forest with several bullet wounds.

The Cofimvaba Cluster Commander Colonel Gcinikhaya Taleni congratulated his team for the speedy arrest.

The case was postponed to 03 February 2015 for formal bail application.
