FNB awarded for Best Islamic Bank Offering

OCTOBER 17, 2016

FNB Islamic Banking has been recognised for having the Best Islamic Banking Offering at the annual Southern African Banking Awards 2016 presented by Banker Africa.

The aim of the Awards is to recognise outstanding performance, best-in-class services and excellence in the financial services industry. The annual Awards are open to all banks and financial institutions in Africa.

Amman Muhammad, CEO of FNB Islamic Banking says the accolade attests to the growing stature of Islamic finance in Southern Africa and the broader African continent.  He says they have consistently seen an important shift since FNB became the first commercial bank in South Africa to offer Islamic banking services.

“Over the last decade, this alternate form of banking has increasingly attracted Muslims and Non-Muslims alike. This is something we should nurture, because of the real benefits of this model. We continue to work with a broad range of customer groups to educate and highlight the benefits of Islamic finance.”

Muhammad says in South Africa, Islamic finance is a key component of the mix of products and services that FNB offers, and customers are responding positively.

The latest recognition for FNB Islamic Banking follows another one which saw its CEO awarded the prestigious “Upcoming Personality in Global Islamic Finance” award and title at the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) the previous year. The GIFA was in acknowledgement for the contributions to the Islamic financial services industry.
