Ford Continues Strong Sales Momentum Into 2015


Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) started 2015 off with the strong, continued sales momentum from last year. Ford its highest-ever January sales month with 5 672 vehicles sold.

This represents a 9.6% increase compared to January 2014 - a significant achievement considering the overall market was flat at 0.4%. 

According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), domestic new vehicle sales at 52 306 units registered a decline of 642 vehicles compared to January 2014. The new car market experienced a decline of 3.6% to 36 982 units while the domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles saw an improvement of 6.0% at 13 460 units.

Ford's star performer was the EcoSport which further reinforced its status as South Africa's most popular compact-SUV. It hit an all-time sales record of 1 218 vehicles, surpassing the previous high tally of 1 005 units in July 2014.

"Ford ended 2014 on a high with best-ever annual and monthly sales, and we have continued that momentum straight into 2015 with an all-time record for January," says Mark Kaufman, Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service, FMCSA.

"Our dealers have done a fantastic job to buck the trend, continuing our strong sales performance and growing our volumes year-on-year while the industry remains under pressure."

"We have a very exciting year lined up," Kaufman says. "In July last year we promised 17 new vehicles by 2016 and we've already kicked off with the first of our 10 launches scheduled for this year. The new high-tech Fusion arrived in January and has already set new standards for smart and innovative technology.

"Ford fans have a lot to look forward to over the coming months with the upcoming Transit Connect, an updated Kuga, the exciting new Focus and Focus ST, a fresh new Ranger, the new Everest and, of course, the Mustang."
