Ford expands commercial vehicle range with full-size Transit models

Ford Motor Company South Africa has reintroduced its full-size Transit in South Africa after a 40 year hiatus, with the addition of a single chassis cab, van and Tourneo passenger bus to compliment the smaller Transit and Tourneo Custom models introduced in 2013.

Consisting out of two models each, both the van and chassis cab models can be specified in either medium wheelbase (MWB) 330 or extended long wheelbase (ELWB) 470 forms with payload ratings of 1325 and 1597 kg for the former and 2270 and 2691 kg for the latter models respectively.

As with the Custom, power is provided by the marque’s 2.2-litre TDCi Duratorq turbodiesel but in two states of tune with 92 kW and 350 N.m of torque on hand in MWB models and 114 kW and 385 N.m in ELWB derivatives. A six speed manual is the sole transmission option available.

Aimed primarily at the shuttle and long distance hauling industry, the Tourneo bus can either be have with the option of the MWB 12-seat 350 or ELWB 18-seat 460 models in high-roof form only. As with the van and chassis cab, the Tourneo uses the same engine and drivetrain setup but with power rated at 100 kW and torque unchanged at 350 N.m.

Standard spec on all six models includes electric windows, a two speaker sound system with Bluetooth, USB and aux inputs, dual 12v power sockets, auto lock/unlock doors, ABS with EBD, ESP and Brake Assist, drivers airbag and a myriad of storage spaces. In addition, the Tourneo includes standard air-conditioning, passenger airbag, floor mounted tie-down hooks, and the option of a reverse camera with front and rear park assist and a separate rear panel for passenger air conditioning use.
