Former Home Affairs official gets eight years in jail for fraud and corruption

JULY 24, 2015

A former Department of Home Affairs official, Noninzi Dyonase (45) was on Thursday slapped with an eight-year jail sentence by the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court after being convicted of fraud and corruption by the same court in May this year.

Dyonase, from Algoa Park, was employed as a control immigration officer by the Department, which she defrauded of more than R145 000.

According to the state, she submitted false travel and subsistence claims between January and December 2012 and paid R45 000 of that money to her co-accused and senior accounting clerk, Selby Skosana.

Skosana, who pleaded guilty to the crime last year and is serving a six-year sentence, was based at the Home Affairs Pretoria head office and was responsible for claims emanating from Limpopo, Free State and Northern Cape, but not the Eastern Cape.
