After attaining her Master’s Degree with Cum Laude at the University of Fort Hare on Thursday, Zimkhitha Soji (24) visited her former high school in Zwelitsha, King Williams Town, to inspire the next generation.

Soji, who is from Mount Coke, in King Williams Town, matriculated at Hector Peterson High School in 2009 before enrolling at the University Of Fort Hare.

“The reason why I visited my former high school is to be a testimony to the black children from disadvantaged schools that they can do it,” she described.

Soji described her former teachers being overwhelmed – even letting out tears of joy, at seeing how they helped to shape her future.

“Thank you Hector Peterson, you have made me the person that I am today, and I am proud to say that I am a product of Hector Peterson,” she said.

Soji first graduated in 2014 with BSc in Agriculture with a Cum Laude and received an award for being the best Animal Science student in South Africa that year.

With her Master’s degree in hand, she has already begun her PhD studies.

Soji said that we sometimes take for granted the work that is done by the teachers, and without education she would not be where she is today.
