Four armed house robbers arrested in Uitenhage after police car chase

The vigilant Back-to-Basics approach of members from Uitenhage Cluster resulted in the arrest of four suspects, aged between 26 and 38 years, on a charge of house robbery during the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to local police, it is alleged that four armed male suspects kicked the front door open of a home in Amanzi Crescent, Kwanobuhle after 02:00, on Sunday.

"The suspects threatened the victim with firearms and took cash, plasma TV and fled with a VW Polo," police said.

"The home owner notified the police and members on routine patrols spotted the vehicle in Mabandla Avenue, Kwanobuhle.

"A chase ensued and the vehicle was intercepted and the four suspects were arrested."

Uitenhage police said that the stolen property was recovered in the vehicle.

"Police investigations are continuing to establish if the suspects can also be linked to other similar cases in the station ward."

The Commander of the Operational Command Centre, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended police officials for their quick reaction that led to the speedy arrest of the four suspects and the recovery of the stolen property.

"The success can be attributed to our targeted and effective deployment of our operational resources that are in line with our Back-To-Basics approach," he said.

The foursome are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court soon.
