MAY 13, 2016

Four armed robbery suspects are expected in the Mthatha High Court on Friday after they were arrested by the Mthatha Flying Squad and K9 following a high-speed car chase on Wednesday night.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela; "There was a vehicle that was reported to have been stolen in Mthatha and that very night, there was a call from a place called Qokolweni about a possible identification of the vehicle.

"Police responded and went to the area, but when they tried to stop the vehicle, its occupants refused and there was a high speed chase."

The officers, who had arrested one suspect prior, managed to arrest another person still in the car when it eventually stopped as the suspects decided to make a run for it.

"Police officers later managed to arrest the two suspects, who escaped on foot, bringing the total to four.

"They are being charged with motor vehicle theft as well as armed robbery," said Lt Colonel Fatyela.

"Police also found them with a 9mm revolver with two rounds of ammunition."

He said that the police would oppose bail for the suspects when they appear in court.
