Four candidates vie for Walter Sisulu University Vice Chancellor and Principal positions

Following the end of Prof Lourens van Staden’s tenure as Walter Sisulu University Administrator on 30 April 2014, University Council set in motion the process of filling the position of Vice-Chancellor and Principal, currently held by Prof Khaya Mfenyana on an interim basis.

The position has since been advertised and four candidates have been shortlisted.

As prescribed in a Process Plan for this particular recruitment process, approved by Council, the names of the candidates who have been short-listed are hereby published as:  (in alphabetical order)

1. Prof Mogege Mosimege (University of South Africa)

2. Dr Stanley Mukhola (Tshwane University of Technology)

3. Prof Sandile Songca (Walter Sisulu University)

4. Prof Gordon Zide (Vaal University of Technology)

Friday 17 April will see all stakeholders, including staff, students and community members  afforded an opportunity to engage with the candidates as they deliver a 20-minute presentation live from the University’s Nelson Mandela Drive Site in Mthatha, streamed to all campuses.

Stakeholders from across all four campuses will be able to watch the presentations as they will be beamed live across the campuses.

A 20-minute question-answer session is also scheduled to give the audience an opportunity to engage with the candidates on their presentations.

On 18 April, the candidates will all go through the last round of formal interviews before Council deliberates and announces its expected decision a week later at its meeting on Friday 24 April.

The VC selection process is head by the Chair of the WSU Council, Judge Dambuza and the selection panel is representative of all stakeholder groups.
