OCTOBER 30, 2015

The SAPS in King William’s Town arrested four suspects, aged between 26 and 53 years, from Mdantsane, in East London, on Thursday night at about 18:00 for  the possession of suspected stolen property.

"The arrest came after police received information that suspects travelling in a Toyota Tazz were allegedly stealing from shops in and around King Williams Town.

"Police followed up on the information and spotted the vehicle at Alexandra Road and gave chase. They   managed to stop the vehicle near the Breidbach crossing outside King William’s Town. They searched the vehicle and found clothes from different shops in the CBD to the value of R10 000," Eastern Cape polce said.

"A preliminary investigation was conducted and the suspects failed to produce proof of payment for the items found in their possession. They were immediately arrested and charged with the possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle which was used is not reported stolen but was confiscated by the Police together with the clothes.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in King Williams Town Magistrate court on Monday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The Station Commander of King Williams Town, Colonel Andile Lamana thanked the community for sharing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.

He also warned members of the community not to buy stolen items as this also equals to aiding and being part of the crime committed.

He also encouraged the community members to report the criminals and/or criminal activities to the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111, Crime Line 32211 or the nearest police station.
