Four suspects arrested for attack on Addo guesthouse owner

Police in Addo have confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the robbery of a guesthouse on Tuesday evening.

In a statement, police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the suspects, aged between 19 and 37, entered the business just after 22h05, where they were approached by the 76-year old who had heard commotion outside his room.

Swart said one of the suspects then hit the owner over the head with an iron bar, where after they entered his room before fleeing on foot with electronic equipment and clothing. The owner was taken to a hospital in Uitenhage after neighbours alerted police.

She said police followed up on a number of leads, leading to the suspects being arrested in nearby Nomathamsanqa village at 05h30 on Thursday. A number of the stolen items were also found in their possession.

The men are expected to appear in the Addo Regional Court on Monday on charges of house robbery.
