Gang related violence in Port Elizabeth’s Northern areas has resulted in the wounding of two female victims by stray bullets in less than 24 hours between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.

On Monday, Port Elizabeth police said they were investigating a case of attempted murder following the shooting of a 26-year old woman in Dinsmore Street, Schauderville.

According to the police, the woman was in a bedroom when she was hit by several stray bullets on Monday morning in her chest and left arm. The shots came from outside the house.

She was taken to Livingstone Hospital.

Meanwhile, a young girl was wounded in another suspected gang-related shooting over the weekend.

According to police, the incident happened in Leigh Street on Sunday afternoon, when the 10-year old was caught in crossfire. She was also hit in the chest, but is still alive.

Police say that the suspects then proceeded to a house in Deveral road, where they fired multiple shots.
