George FCS commended for bringing serial child rapist to book

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Crime Detection in the Western Cape, Major General Jeremy Vearey, has commended the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit for their sterling investigative work in bringing to book a suspect accused of sexually assaulting seven young girls between 2012 and 2014. 

According to the police, "50 year-old Konrad van Niekerk made a court appearance on Tuesday in the Thembalethu Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to 67 charges, which included 39 counts of rape and the possession of child pornography.

"He was found guilty and is expected to be sentenced on 29 February 2016."

The police added that crimes against women and children are high on the priority list of the Western Cape police "and we will make every endeavour to prosecute offenders with the full might of the law".
