Gerrard joins LA Galaxy

BY NATALI IVERSON - JANUARY 8, 2015

Liverpool captain and midfielder, Steven Gerrard, has confirmed that he will be joining Los Angeles Galaxy on an 18 month contract after his deal with Anfield expires in July this year.

In an interview with Liverpool Echo, Gerrard said that he would have stayed with The Reds if a new agreement could have been reached, but added that he is excited to be joining the Major League Soccer Champions.

"The time's right for myself and my family for the change, for the fresh challenge," the 34-year-old told the Los Angeles Times.

"I want to finish my career very strong. I want to add some more medals and trophies to my collection. So I think it's a match made in heaven, really. One of the reasons why I chose LA Galaxy was because of the success they've had recently. But also the plans for more success in the future."

Gerrard has spent most of his football career with Liverpool, making 700 appearances and helping his team win the Champions League, Football Association Challenge Cup (FA) and League Cup.

Galaxy head coach and manager, Bruce Arena, has stated that he is delighted to have Gerrard joining his team

"We're very pleased to acquire a player of Steven's calibre, experience and character," said Arena.

"He is one of the most decorated players in the world and will join our team with a wealth of success playing at the highest level of the sport. Steven will be an excellent example to our young players and we're excited to add him and his leadership to an already-talented roster."
