Go George services compromised due to drives strike

JULY 27, 2016

George Link has informed the George Municipality of a planned strike by GO GEORGE bus drivers from 14:30 on Thursday, 28 July 2016, until further notice.

“GO GEORGE will endeavour to provide optimal service under the circumstances,” said James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager.

“We won’t be able to operate according to the normal time tables, but will be servicing the busiest routes with all the drivers at our disposal. We request our valued passengers to please make use of alternative forms of transport wherever possible and assist us to spread the message to their employers and schools. We encourage those who are fully reliant on GO GEORGE to get to the bus stops earlier than usual as there could be significant delays depending on the number of drivers available. As always, the safety of the public, our passengers, staff and vehicles are of utmost importance and will be kept in mind when contingency plans are rolled out,” he said.

Robb apologised for the inconvenience this disruption will cause GO GEORGE passengers.

“The best we can and will do is to keep the community informed of routes that will be serviced as well as any possible delays. Apart from communication via flyers directly to passengers as far as possible, and updates via the local media, all affected parties can stay updated by following the GO GEORGE Facebook page that will always have the latest information, or calling our Call Centre on 0800 044 044.”

The GO GEORGE bus drivers are employed by George Link (Pty) Ltd, the independent vehicle operating company which holds a contract with the George Municipality.

George Link is in the process of applying for an urgent interdict against the strike, while continuing negotiations with the unions, representatives and employees to resolve the issue.
