Gold names Sharks team for Toulon match
Cell C Sharks coach, Gary Gold, has named his team which will be taking on French giants, Toulon, in their Super Rugby pre-season friendly match at the Stade Mayol in France on Thursday evening.
Gold said that this game will be a great preparation ahead of their first Super Rugby match against the Toyota Free State Cheetahs at the Kings Park Stadium next week Saturday.
“This match (against Toulon) is going to be the first really competitive game of the season, and we’re up against a team that has qualified for the Heineken Cup (European Champions Cup) quarter-finals already,” Gold said.
“Yes, they will be more prepared than us and more game ready than us, that’s the challenge we face. But the reason why we wanted to be here is to put ourselves under this kind of pressure.
“It’s going to be a massive challenge, one we’re very excited about. I’m really happy that we are going to be playing such a quality team.”
Springbok hooker, Bismarck du Plessis, will be leading the team as captain, with Gold including other Bok players such as Lwazi Mvovo, Pat Lambie, Cobus Reinach, Marcell Coetzee and Tendai Mtawarira.
Lock, Pieter-Steph du Toit will finally be making his return to the team after being side-lined for several months due to a knee injury.
Former England lock, Mouritz Botha, will officially be joining the Sharks as he will be making his debut.
The only team members who are not included in the first choice team are Frans Steyn, who is on duty in Japan, Willem Alberts and Jannie du Plessis, who are both working towards full fitness and Thomas du Toit, who is currently injured.
