Good food, good wine and good vibes!: Enjoy it all at E-Street Café …

BY GRAEME LUND - DECEMBER 15, 2014

The E Street Band has been musician Bruce Springsteen's primary backing band since 1972 - and the inspiration for the name of a new, unique and trendy restaurant, bar and café. Conveniently situated at the Fountains Mall in Jeffery’s Bay, E-Street Café offers incredibly good food in a great setting that offers plenty of vibe.

Recently opened by Marius and Lorraine Malherbe, the owners of the famous Kitchen Windows Beach Restaurant, it is obvious that this restaurateur couple put their years of experience into making E-Street the place to be in Jeffrey’s Bay.

E-Street is spacious yet full of character with a long bar, big screen TV’s, indoor and out-door tables, couches and even a piano that invites ‘creative’ fingers to try out a melody.

Moreover, their menu is varied and offers all manner of food from breakfasts to seafood, steaks to salads, wraps to tapas and some really delicious deserts.

Emmy, the manageress, also informed me that all their meals and dishes are prepared on-site. They even bake their own breads and craft their own burger patties - you will not be served frozen, precooked food at this fine establishment. Your correspondent also found that while E-Street wine selection is relatively small, it is well-selected.

Local banting fans will be happy to know that the restaurant also offers delectable banting burgers that are prepared from large mushrooms instead of bread rolls.

On my recent business trip to Jeffery’s Bay, I had lunch at E-Street and enjoyed one of the best sirloin steaks that I have ever had - their Steel Mill Steak. Marinated in a spicy Portuguese sauce and topped with bacon and egg, this steak kept me going through a busy afternoon.

I had also been informed that their Amarula and Chocolate Cheesecake was not to be missed and so I finished off my meal with this delicious, divine desert and an Americano.

E-Street is highly recommended to those looking for a quick breakfast or lunch during their weekly shop; it can also keep dads entertained with live sport, a tall frosty in hand, while mom visits the boutiques. Parents wanting some peace and quiet while they enjoy E-Street’s delectable food and wine, can make use of Funky Frogs Play Centre is just across the hall.  Dinners are served every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

During this holiday season, E-Street will be open from 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 3pm on Sundays. I’ll be there for another of those steaks!
