Graeme College Cricket Report – 25 Feb
The Graeme 1st XI was brought down to earth by a powerful Hudson Park side on Saturday. Much has been said about the Hudson team, and it was going to be a good test for the young Graeme side.
They were unable to match the intensity and skill of the Hudson side on the day. Graeme won the toss and decided to bat on what looked like good surface. They got off to a solid start before a soft dismissal saw the Hudson team break through.
From then on, the Hudson side had their own way for most of the match. Graeme lost a fourth wicket just before tea, to be a little disappointed at 80/4. However, from there they could post a defendable target. The left arm spin of Luke Dallas (5/27) was ultimately the undoing of the Graeme side, as they struggled to build any partnerships.
The speed of Akhona Mnyaka (4/12) though, was too much for the Graeme middle order to deal with, and he ripped through the average defence of the batsmen. Graeme were bundled out for 98 shortly after drinks.
In reply, Graeme were not clinical and let Hudson get to a 58 run opening partnership, missing four chances in the field. They did manage to try build a little pressure after drinks, but it was all a little too late. Hudson coasted home, winning by seven wickets.
Graeme had a good win by 4 wickets in the second XI fixture, and another good contest in the u15a match, ended in a draw. Hudson won the u14a match by 7 runs, in an exciting match.
