Grahamstown police call off search for suspected murderer after remains found

Grahamstown police on Wednesday called off the search for Mlimi Niconn Mboniswa after skeletal remains suspected to be his were found on Monday evening by young livestock herders in the bushes near Fort England outside Grahamstown. 

Police said personal belongings believed to be Mboniswa's were found alongside the human skeleton. He had been on the local police wanted list when he disappeared in 2013 following the murder of a woman in the town.

The woman, a well-known Grahamstown teacher, Siphokazi Tom, was murdered on the moning of 16 October 2013, while she was asleep at her home 'D' Street.

Mlimi Niconn Mboniswa

Shortly before the murder Mboniswa operated as a taxi driver between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. 

Experts from the SAPS forensics department were at the scene until late on Tuesday combing the area for evidence that could assist in identifying the victim.

A murder investigation is under way.
