GREAT FAMILY OPTION: Have you eaten at RJ’s Steakhouse yet?
I had always wanted to visit Port Elizabeth’s new family restaurant, RJ’s Steakhouse, ever since learning of their arrival in the Bay. So, when my family and I found ourselves in Summerstrand on a recent Friday evening, we decided to pop in for supper.
We were warmly greeted by the manager who showed us to our table. Having never visited RJ’s before, I had no idea what to expect. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find how well finished and spacious the restaurant is. While an inviting bar area graced one wall, there was an enclosed smokers’ room and a kiddies’ play zone complete with an activity slide and gaming consoles.
Before long, our friendly waitress brought the menus and took our drinks orders. Although RJ’s is a ‘steakhouse’, their menu is quite substantial, offering everything from starters to burgers, seafood, ribs, steaks, chicken, salads, vegetarian options and a full complement of desserts!
It took us quite a while to decide, but we eventually settled on the 400g pork ribs basted with honey and mustard sauce, served with vegetables for my wife and a spicy chicken fajita with onion, tomato, guacamole, cheese and jalapeño, served with chips for myself. Our boys decided on two children’s margarita pizzas, one with ham and the other with chicken, both served with chips before they ran off to explore the children’s area.
While we took time to relax, our boys were busy saving the world in the play zone – only returning for a sip of their drinks from time to time.
Upon arrival, our meals looked delicious and we soon found that they tasted every bit as good. The pizzas were fresh, my fajita was flavourful and my wife’s succulent ribs were so generously served that I had to assist her in finishing them!
We really enjoyed our family dinner experience at RJ’s. Our bill came to just over R300 which included two cool drinks, two beers and a water, but excluded a tip. With good value for money options, a relaxing atmosphere and attentive staff, RJ’s is highly recommended for an alternative family restaurant experience.
RJ’s also run some great day-to-day specials; on Mondays, you can buy one burger and get one free; Tuesdays, kids eat free; Wednesdays, enjoy bottomless ribs; Thursdays is ladies night and on Sundays there are Seriously Silly Sunday discount offers.
