Greyvensteins Givers Gain charity drive a success
Port Elizabeth estate agents proved yet again that Port Elizabeth is a caring city when they came out in numbers to support the Greyvensteins Givers Gain charity drive that was held on Saturday.
Amid loud cheers and music runners took on Park Drive which surrounds St George's Park.
The Givers Gain campaign was conceived by Greyvenstiens in January 2013 with the aim of giving back to the community and those less fortunate by joining hands in a collaborative effort with other Estate Agencies. The initiative takes the format of a year-long fund-raising and charity events drive for selected non-profit organisations (NPOs).
That year, the Givers Gain campaign culminated with the Givers Gain Gala at The Boardwalk Casino’s Convention Centre, where guests were treated to entertainment by a magician and musicians at the glamorous Las Vegas-themed evening where everybody was a winner.
In 2014, over R200 000 was raised for last year’s benefiting charities.
Saturday’s charity relay race featured a team led by veteran athlete, Raynard Tissink, against all the teams from local estate agents. These included Rawson Property Group, Jaco Rademeyer Estates, Frannie Real Estates, RE/MAX Property, Harcourts Beachfront, Greyvensteins, Just letting, Pam Golding, IPC Properties as well as teams from ABSA, SA Home Loans and Axxess internet.
In the end, Team Tissink walked away the winners – perhaps owing to Raynard’s solid triathlon experience.
He has been competing in the sport of triathlon for more than 22 years, competed in 33 Ironman races and achieved 4 Top 10 finishes at the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Tissink has 8 IRONMAN titles: IRONMAN Korea in 2002 and 2007, IRONMAN Canada in 2003, IRONMAN South Africa in 2005, 2010 and 2011, IRONMAN Wisconsin in 2009 and IRONMAN Austria in 2005.
He has also been in 12 top five finishes: IRONMAN South Africa (2nd in 2001, 2006, 2007 and 2008), IRONMAN Louisville (3rd in 2009), IRONMAN Austria (2nd in 2004), IRONMAN Western Australia (2nd in 2007), IRONMAN Malaysia (3rd in 2001), IRONMAN Brazil (4th in 2002), IRONMAN Florida (5th in 2002), IRONMAN Coeur d''Alene (2nd in 2003) and 3rd at IRONMAN Florida in 2003.
Tissink has also been in four Top 10 finishes at the World Championships, in Kona, Hawaii.
In the first ever finish at the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii; he became the first ever South African to finish in the Top 10. In 2005, he finished in 7th place. In 2010, he finished in 5th place.
