Grill & Company tops the list of restaurants in Humansdorp
On a recent public holiday, my boyfriend and I decided to take a road trip to St Francis via J-Bay and Humansdorp. After an enjoyable morning in Jeffreys Bay we stopped for lunch at a restaurant, Grill & Company, which is situated at the bottom of Main Street in a rather pleasantly designed Centre called 95 on Main.
Humansdorp is not always associated with great restaurants but on entering Grill & Company I knew this perception was about to change. From the entrance, the restaurant is inviting. Neat layout, big bar counter, warm lighting and a rustic theme with modern facilities make this eatery very attractive.
Apart from the normal restaurant seating there are also couches inside for those who want to relax and read a book. The veranda has many tables to choose from and a play space for kids to enjoy.
I also noticed soon after entering that the staff were well trained, efficient and friendly. Throughout our stay we had great service.
Once we received our menu, it took a while for us to decide on what we wanted. The menu is comprehensive and designed to suite all tastes. Naturally there is a broad selection from the grill but there is also a breakfast section, seafood and a variety of pizzas. We gave it our full attention.
Because we were driving we stuck to light drinks but I did notice a well-chosen wine menu. After much discussion my boyfriend chose the 200g beef fillet. I’m not big into meat and I was pleased to find pizza that sounded mouth-watering and matched my culinary preferences - I opted for the feta, red onion and butternut pizza.
One of the managers of Grill informed us that they have hired a new Head chef, Stewart Tee, who is incredibly passionate about food and who trained at The Mills Culinary Academy – Internationally accredited by Gordon Ramsay. The menu has been revamped, they have decided that they will be focusing more on grills, and will be adding items such as grilled prawns, ostrich and venison in the near future.
Our meals were amazing; the pizza was beautifully done, with a perfectly crispy base and a lovely combination of flavours. My boyfriend said that his steak was definitely one of the best that he had ever had, as it was perfectly medium rare, and basted in a delicious barbeque sauce.
This restaurant ticks all the boxes – good service, great food and a delightful ambiance. I’ll definitely be back.
