Gunmen kill Port Elizabeth man as paramedics loaded him into ambulance

Police in Port Elizabeth are searching for gunmen who brazenly shot dead a man who was being stretchered to an ambulance by Paramedics in the city's Kwazakhele Township on Monday.

According to the police, State Paramedics had been called out to a shooting incident in Kalipa Street where they found a 24-year-old man who had been shot and injured.

As the Paramedics were loading the man into the ambulance, gunmen appeared and opened fire killing him instantly.

"Fortunately crew members escaped unhurt, however we are extremely concerned about these incidents. it is the third one where our crew members found themselves in the crossfire or being the targets of criminal elements. We would like to urge members of the community to protect our staff members," Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, told Algoa FM.

Police are still to make any arrests.
