High probability of load shedding for this afternoon: Eskom
Eskom warned in a tweet on Tuesday morning that the load shedding probability was medium in the morning and high in the afternoon and is "dependent on the performance of our power plants".
"Load shedding prognosis for today is medium for the morning and very high for the evening and dependent on the performance of the power plant," the power utility said.
Yesterday, Eskom implemented Stage One load shedding from 5pm and cancelled it at 9:21pm.
In a statement on Sunday, the power utility said the electricity supply system remains very vulnerable for the rest of the week due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages.
"Any unforeseen incident in the power system could thus trigger the implementation of load shedding," Eskom said.
Last week, the power utility also unveiled plans that it will replace stage 3b with stage 4 for ease of communication.
WEEKLY LOADSHEDDING SCHEDULES, STAGES 1, 2, 3 & 4
Please note that:
In order to equitably distribute loadshedding both geographically and in terms of time, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality rotates eight (8) groups over a weekly period, with each group being shed for an equal number of hours over the said week, and each receiving a different loadshedding timeslot so that the distribution is fair.
As Eskom does not necessarily announce loadshedding everyday, this may result in some groups being shed more than others over a period. The consequent unintended "inequity" is sometimes exacerbated by a change in the stage of loadshedding (Eskom has four different stages of loadshedding depending on the demand versus the supply).
For this we sincerely apologise but -- as the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality cannot predict with any modicum of certainty as to, firstly, whether or not there will be loadshedding and, secondly, at what stage such loadshedding will be -- the scheduling system that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have compiled is the most optimally equitable system that can be applied.
Of course, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are always on a path of continuous improvement and, more importantly, are always cognisant of and attentive to the feedback of our residents. To this end, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality have picked up that the substation feeding supply to certain sections in Area 18 of Group 6, namely parts of Westering, Linton Grange, Kabega Park and Morningside, were regularly experiencing cable faults, resulting in residents in these affected areas either experiencing power outages outside of the loadshedding schedule or, in certain instances, not being switched off at all in order to protect the integrity of the ambivalent substation.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are happy to announce that we have now rectified this particular problem: these sections shall now be be fed from a substation in Rowallan Park; these sections will, therefore, now fall under Area 14 of Group 5 and will, accordingly, experience loadshedding as part of Group 5.
Please note that this will not mean that the entire suburbs mentioned will be in Group 5, as sections thereof will remain in Group 6.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality apologise for the change in the grouping but reiterate that this is indeed part of continuous improvement.
- The schedule does not mean that every single household/property in a particular Group will definitely be switched off for the entire duration of the loadshedding time-slot;
- Hospitals and major industrial areas are not affected by loadshedding. In certain instances, there are households which are supplied from the same substation that provides power to a hospital or factory (such as at SANCA in Chatty) - these households are, fortunately and consequently, not affected by loadshedding;
Loadshedding will not be implemented outside the scheduled timeframes.
