High tea is fine art at The Boardwalk Hotel

High Tea is a fine art at the five-star Boardwalk Hotel where a decadent, vintage themed afternoon tea buffet is staged every Saturday with all the grace and poise that has characterized the tradition for centuries.

One of only a handful of hotels in Port Elizabeth to still stage a high tea of such indulgent proportions, The Boardwalk Hotel frequently refreshes its High Tea to reflect the season and inspire regular guests to explore enticing new combinations. Only the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients are used for the sumptuous spread which features a choice of desserts, confectionary, and savouries.

Served in the hotel’s lofty Lobby Lounge, with the quiet hum of guests coming and going, The Boardwalk’s High Tea is sophisticated experience that everyone should have at least once.

“Classics such as cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches and freshly baked scones with cream and jam, are staple at our High Tea while our signature mushroom cream and thyme pies, and goat’s cheese baked with tomato jam, are firm favourites amongst our guests and are on their way to being redefined as classics.

“Of course, variety is the spice of life and we are constantly evolving our offering, including our selection of teas. Ginger and lemon grass tea is our newest arrival, alongside our homemade bubble teas which are an invigorating choice on a warm summer’s day,” says executive Chef Paul Bain.

The varying buffet includes decadent cakes such as pistachio and chocolate gateaux with granadilla curd; chocolate gnash Swiss roll and bit sized red velvet cupcakes, as well as treats like almond Florentines; chocolate éclairs; brandy snaps filled with raspberry cream, and custard puffs.

There is a choice of savoury treats such as creamy mushroom pie; ham, cheese and onion quiche; curried chicken mayonnaise with lettuce and apricots on seeded bread; egg mayonnaise with watercress on brown bread; feta cheese, olive and dried tomato palmiers, and pork and apple sausage rolls with poppy seeds.

Guests can sip on their choice of tea, coffee, homemade lemonade and ginger beer, and bubble tea.

High Tea at The Boardwalk is served from 14h30 until 15h30, with a second sitting from 16h00 to 17h00 every Saturday. The cost is R105 per person and booking is essential. To book, contact 041 507 9452.
