Humansdorp learners appear in court over attempted murder charge

MARCH 4, 2015

Humansdorp police are reportedly investigating a case of attempted murder, after a learner at the town’s Nico Malan High School was allegedly stabbed on a school bus. The suspects, aged 16 and 17, will appear in court on Wednesday to determine criminal capacity while a Social Worker will determine whether the suspects will appear in a criminal or children’s court.

A case was opened at the Jeffrey’s Bay police station over the weekend by an 18-year old complainant.

It is alleged there was a group of learners on the bus at the time of the incident, and that the 18 year-old was stabbed several times.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Basil Seekoei, told a local news blog that the student was allegedly stabbed by fellow learners during an argument.

He says the complainant sustained stab wounds to the upper body.

Both suspects are in the care of their parents and have been suspended from school for seven days. A disciplinary hearing will also take place.

The boy who was stabbed in the attack has been released from hospital and is recuperating at home.
