IEC has been notified of four Eastern Cape municipal by-elections

Four municipal by-elections are set to be held in the Eastern Cape, including in the Nelson Mandela Bay, where the African National Congress (ANC) Ward councillor candidate for Walmer, Nceba Dywili, was gunned down just before the August 3 poll.

"Kindly note that the Electoral Commission needs to be notified by the municipal manager of a municipality when a ward vacancy occurs," the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) Tumi Sethoba told RNEWS..

Sethoba said that; "Since the 3 Aug 2016 elections, the Commission has received notifications from the following municipal managers:

"A by-election timetable for 9 November 2016 has been drafted but still needs to be approved by the Electoral Commission to fill these ward vacancies," she explained.

"It is expected that the Commission will be informed of additional ward vacancies by relevant municipal managers that will form part of the draft 9 Nov 2016 by-election timetable."
