It’s all in the name: Face Tranquility B&B is in the forest next to the beach

BY GRAEME LUND - SEPTEMBER 7, 2015

Nature’s Valley, which lies between the Bloukrans Bridge and The Crags, is one of the most secluded holiday spots on the South African coastline. The village is in the midst of a thick, indigenous forest and is separated from one of the country’s most spectacular beaches by a coastal dune field.

Face Tranquility B&B lies on the western edge of Nature’s Valley and is a very short walk away from the beach. What I most enjoy about this B&B are the sounds. The whisper of the wind through the trees, water dripping off leaves and the cacophony of birds waking in the morning is all backed up by the distant rumble of the surf.

The B&B itself is very comfortable. There is a deep plunge pool set into indigenous rock and a substantial braai area nearby. The building is wooden, as one would expect in a forest, and the rooms are luxuriously-appointed with crisp white linen, en-suite bathrooms and DSTV connected TV’s.

The accommodation includes seven double en-suite rooms, one of which is a honeymoon suite on the top floor that includes his and hers basins, a Jacuzzi and huge shower and a wood-burning fireplace. There are also two superior twin rooms also located on the upper floor. The standard rooms are located downstairs.

Each room has a private veranda or balcony where visitors can relax after a busy day of exploring the surrounding area. If you do manage to fit in all the activities on offer, you will certainly need to relax. Thankfully there is also a fully-stocked honesty bar which makes the feet-up, head back moment all the more enjoyable.

Starting an adventurous day with a full stomach is a must and Tranquility B&B sure knows how to emphasise the second ‘B’. Fresh croissants, a selection of fruit, cereal and yogurt is all rounded off with a hearty, hot English bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes. Put the final touches of your plan for the day over a Cappuccino or two as I did.

Activities abound and with Face Tranquility B&B being part of the Bloukrans Face Adrenalin Bungy experience guests at the B&B get a discount on the Bloukrans activities. Fishing, hiking, birdwatching and trail running are all fantastic in this area. The B&B also offers free use of their kayaks on the lagoon.

The only fault with my stay at Face Tranquility B&B was that my stay was too short. Next time, I’ll stay longer - see you there! For more information, visit www.facetranquility.co.za or call 044 531 6663.
