It's all systems go for 7th edition of the Motherwell Freedom Run

It’s all systems go as the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) on Thursday launched the much-awaited 7th edition of the Motherwell Freedom Run (MFR) at the City Hall.

"The event has over the years grown in leaps and bounds as more entries have been received with a diversified participant composition," described Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip.

"Initially, the MFR was established with a local focus but has since seen a tremendous interest from wide and far, in the recent years attracting participants from across the country."

He said that the event’s success and its ability to bring people together is expressed in the diversity of participants, truly representative of the demographics of Nelson Mandela Bay.

"In its construct, the event was established to create social cohesion within Metro communities and also to encourage people to take part in a fun-filled lifestyle changing programme.

"The Metro is currently marketing itself as an international tourism sporting destination," the Mayor added.

"The city is committed to bettering its event hosting standards every year to ensure a high standard of professionalism is achieved."

He said that the Motherwell Freedom Run is a great initiative in that it positions the city as a sporting destination.

"We have a lot to be proud of as the event offers lifestyle change for our people – let’s take part in the event in large numbers and grow it from strength to strength.

"We have seen visible growth over the years as the event is now attracting national participants. This can only be achieved if all the relevant stakeholders are able to offer a world-class event for those taking part," described Trollip.

The event will take place on 22 April in Motherwell.
